In the song, "Full of Grace," by Sarah McLachlan the tone is depressed. One example of this tone of depressed is established in the line, "I haven't seen the sun for weeks." This line displays the tone of depressed because it implies that she is stuck in her own world of misery. Because she "[hasn't] seen the sun," she is living with a cloud of darkness hovering over her. This leaves her feeling alone and depressed. Another example of the town of depressed is in the line, "I never thought I could feel so low." This line establishes tone by suggesting how she could have tried harder and her relationship. This feeling of regret makes her feel "[lower]" then she ever has before. Since she is not fully dedicated to the relationship, it causes her to feel lonely and depressed. A final example of the depressed tone is found in the line, "I just feel like letting go." This line helped create the tone be revealing that she is giving up. Because she is "letting go," she no longer sees her importance. These suicidal thoughts lead her to feeling depressed. Through the lines of the song the tone of depressed is established in the song "Full of Grace," by Sarah McLachlan.
In the song, "Full of Grace," by Sarah McLachlan, the tone is powerless. One example of how this tone of powerlessness is established is in the line, "I feel just like I'm sinking." This line displays the tone of powerless because the author feels like she is "sinking." There is nothing she can do about it so the power is taken from her. She feels powerless and in despair because she is unwillingly "sinking." Another example of the tone of powerless is in the line, "I'm pulled down by the undertow." This line establishes tone by relating her emotions to the overwhelming undertow of the sea. Like a body in the ocean, her emotions are being pulled around. The uncontrollable "undertow" renters her powerless as she is "pulled down" emotionally. A final example of the powerless tone is found in the line, "I claw for solid ground." This line helps create the tone by indicating the struggle the author is having to stay on "solid ground." She is being overtaken by the waves of despair, and her power is sucked from her as she tries to "claw" for stable emotions. She feels powerless because she has no control over her emotions, no matter how hard she tries to overcome them. Through the lines of the song, the tone of powerless is established in the song, "full of grace," by Sarah McLachlan. Please be prepared on FRIDAY, 2/3, for our quiz on Unit 10 Vocab.
