Please be prepared tomorrow with notes and ideas for writing a paragraph for the topics below. You will be grouped and assigned a topic, given a 20 minute discussion and writing period, given an opportunity to share with the whole group, and must be prepared to turn in a well organized, brilliantly articulated, textually support paragraph about your assigned topic at the end of the period. In order to help you organize you thoughts around this I have posted the close reading activity from today's class below. Happy thinking! 1. light in ch 7 (Hester and Pearl’s interactions with it; how each of them perceive it; connotations of light and an absence of light) 2. images and associations with Pearl ch 8 (consider how Pearl is described and ponder the symbolic importance of the images that Hawthorne surrounds her in) 3. diction and syntax choices for Bellingham, Dimmesdale, and Hester ch 8 (how do they speak to each other? Tone? Specific structural choices? Specific words?) 4. symbolic and thematic importance of the reflection ch 7 (extrapolate out the myriad of meanings of what Hester sees in the armor)
Remember to study this vocabulary for our quiz on Friday, 8/29.
