When you arrive at my door on FRIDAY, 9/21, please be prepared to be brilliant about the good Reverend Dimmesdale with text, analysis, and commentary on the following:

Please be prepared for our SL 1-10 Quiz on THURSDAY, 9/20. It will be formatted as follows:
1-10 matching (characters, plot, author, terms) 11-20 multiple choice (plot, characters) Short Answer: Four choices, you will write to TWO of the four, may use drafts, writing help, charts, and quote collection, NO NOVEL) Happy studying! Please ensure that you have completed the attached chart by the time you arrive at my door on TUESDAY, 9/18.
Foils are characters an author juxtaposes in order to highlight a similarity or a difference. Based on what you read in ch 9 and 10, please complete the chart for the characters of Dimmesdale and Chillingworth. Remember as you read and select your text you are considering WHY HAWTHORNE WOULD MAKE THAT SPECIFIC COMPARISON. Happy thinking! 1. light in ch 7 (Hester and Pearl’s interactions with it; how each of them perceive it; connotations of light and an absence of light) 2. images and associations with Pearl ch 8 (consider how Pearl is described and ponder the symbolic importance of the images that Hawthorne surrounds her in) 3. symbolic and thematic importance of the reflection ch 7 (extrapolate out the myriad of meanings of what Hester sees in the armor) Please remember that we draft on MONDAY, 9/17, so please ensure that you are collecting and thinking with WRITING IN MIND.
